The strength of a six-cylinder model, the fuel economy of a four-cylinder version: Audi will start the mass production of the Audi A8 hybrid in 2012. The gasoline engines – the 2.0 TFSI – and an electric motor to develop maximum power of 180 kW (245 hp) and 480 Nm (345.03 pounds-ft) of torque. The average consumption is less than 6.4 liters per 100 km (36.75 U.S. mpg). The sedan can travel at speeds up to 100 kph (62.14 mph) on electric power alone, and comprise about three kilometers (1.86 miles) locally emission-free at a constant speed of 60 kilometers per hour (37.28 hours miles).
Audi’s top model is designed as a highly efficient parallel hybrid. The 2.0 TFSI, which has been modified in some areas, generates an output of 155 kW (211 hp) and 350 Nm (258.15 pounds-ft) of torque available minutes 1500-4200. The engine works with a disc-shaped electric motor 40 kW (54 hp) and 210 Nm (154.89 pounds-feet) was developed.
The permanent magnet synchronous motor is mounted in the chamber usually through the torque converter from the modified eight-speed tiptronic occupied. A multi-plate clutch that works in an oil bath connects or disconnects the electric motor and the TFSI engine. The clutch operates with high precision and accurate in all situations. The very comfortable and fast-switching hybrid transmission accompanies the couple on the front wheels, with its wide spread transition contributes to the efficiency of the Audi A8 hybrid.
The short-term performance of 180 kW (245 hp) and torque of 480 Nm, the system (£ 354.03-ft) is a very agile performance. The Audi A8 hybrid at 100 kph (62.14 mph) in 7.7 seconds from standstill and has a top speed of 235 kph (146.02 hours miles). Fuel consumption in EU cycle is less than 6.4 liters per 100 km (36.75 U.S. mpg) and CO2 emissions under 148 grams per kilometer (238.18 g / mile). Please note that all figures are provisional.
The Audi A8 hybrid drive can be up to 100 kph (62.14 mph) in pure electric power and has a maximum range of three kilometers (1.86 miles) at a constant 60 kph (37.28 hours miles). This gives the driver the choice between three modes: EV-card character primarily to electric drive, while the D-mode effectively controls both the engine and electric motor. The S-mode and the tiptronic gate designed for sporty driving. The hybrid sedan has five operational modes: with the TFSI engine with electric drive alone or in hybrid mode, the repair and reinforcement possible. Two displays show the operator all modes in detail.
The lithium-ion battery, 36.7 kilograms (80.91 pounds), it is in a crash-proof placed in the trunk. It provides 1.3 kWh of energy and 40 kW. Two different methods are in the air to cool the battery used, depending on the needs of air from the passenger compartment by a fan blowing, and coupled with a separate cooling circuit for the automatic air conditioning. The battery temperature is within the window required to achieve its full potential over a wide area rather than perform. The compact electric motor and power electronics, which are used as a controller between water-cooled electric motor and battery.
In visual terms, the Audi A8 hybrid is through subtle details from. The ten-spoke alloy wheels – with a diameter of 18 inches and 19-inch are optional – reminiscent of turbine blades. The body has hybrid badges and Arctic Silver is excluded as a painting. The metallic paint, tri-zone automatic climate control, LED headlamps, Bose sound system are standard.
With the ultra-lightweight know-how of the brand, the Audi A8 one of the lightest hybrid sedans in its category. The ASF (Audi Space Frame) body is made entirely of aluminum, while the B-pillar-shaped hot, ultra-high-strength steel. Weighing only 231 kilograms (509.27 pounds), about 40 percent lighter than a comparable steel structure.
